Kohli Raises Concerns: Bowling Action Accusation?

During the second day of the opening Test match in Dominica
Indian cricket stalwart Virat Kohli expressed his dissatisfaction with the bowling action of West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite. Kohli’s remarks on the stump mic sparked speculations about him accusing Brathwaite of having an illegal bowling action. Kohli’s struggle to find his rhythm against the West Indies bowlers was evident, with his first boundary coming off the 81st delivery he faced. Throughout his innings, Kohli seemed dissatisfied with Brathwaite’s bowling action. Reports suggest that the stump mic captured Kohli’s comment, “Bhatta phenk raha hai” which roughly translates to “he is throwing bricks.”
This comment implied Kohli’s
Suspicion that Brathwaite’s action might be illegal or against the rules. It is not the first time questions have been raised about Brathwaite’s bowling action. In 2019, during India’s tour of the West Indies, his action was reported. However, on both occasions, the International Cricket Council (ICC) found no faults and deemed his action to be within the legal limits specified. According to the rules, an action is considered illegal if the bowler’s elbow extension exceeds 15 degrees, measured from the point when the bowling arm reaches the horizontal until the ball is released.
It is important to note that Kohli has not officially reported
Brathwaite’s action to the umpires. His comment about the West Indies skipper’s action seems to have been a judgment shared with his on-field partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal. While no formal complaint has been lodged against Brathwaite yet,it remains possible that a member of the Indian team might do so during the course of the remaining two Tests on the tour. Meanwhile, in the Dominica contest, India currently holds a strong position in the match, having established a lead of 162 runs at the end of Day 2.
