Jemimah Rodrigues Creates History: First Indian Female to Score 50 Runs and Take 4 Wickets in a WODI Match
Jemimah Rodrigues played a crucial role in helping India level the series with her exceptional all-round performance. In the same WODI match, she achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first Indian female cricketer to score 50 runs and take four wickets.
In a crucial second game of the three-match WODI series, India Women faced Bangladesh Women as the visitors. Jemimah Rodrigues’ extraordinary all-round display proved pivotal in leveling the series for the tourist side. Notably, she became the first Indian female cricketer to achieve the milestone of scoring 50 runs and taking four wickets in the same WODI match.
Jemimah Rodrigues: 86 runs in 78 balls
In the second game of the series, Bangladesh Women, leading by 1-0, chose to field first at Mirpur. India Women managed to score 228/8 in their allotted 50 overs, largely driven by Rodrigues’ impressive knock of 86 runs off 78 balls, featuring nine fours. India’s skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur, also played a crucial role, scoring 52 runs in 88 balls with three fours, despite having retired hurt earlier when she had scored 48 runs. Smriti Mandhana, the opener, contributed 36 runs off 58 balls (four fours) after India lost their first two wickets cheaply.
The Bangladesh bowlers, Nahida Akter (2/37) and Sultana Khatun (2/41), were the most successful in collecting wickets, each taking two in the innings.
Jemimah Rodrigues: 3.1-0-3-4
After a challenging start at 38/3 in 13.4 overs, Bangladesh Women made a commendable recovery, reaching 106/3, thanks to a solid fourth-wicket partnership between Fargana Hoque (47 runs off 81 balls; five fours) and Ritu Moni (27 runs off 46 balls; three fours). However, once the partnership was broken, their batting collapsed dramatically, losing the last seven wickets for just 14 runs.
Devika Vaidya initiated the collapse by dismissing Hoque, and then Jemimah Rodrigues wreaked havoc on the home batting line-up. Devika’s impressive bowling figures were 8-0-30-3, while Rodrigues’ bowling figures were 3.1-0-3-4. Before this WODI, Rodrigues had taken only one WODI wicket and one WT20I wicket. Bangladesh Women were eventually bundled out for a mere 120 runs in 35.1 overs, resulting in India Women leveling the series with a convincing 108-run victory.
Jemimah Rodrigues produced rare WODI performance
In a remarkable feat, Jemimah Rodrigues achieved a significant milestone, becoming only the second Asian cricketer (following Pakistan’s Urooj Mumtaz) and the 14th overall to score at least 50 runs and take 4 wickets in the same WODI match. Additionally, this remarkable achievement marked the 16th instance of a female player scoring 50+ runs and taking at least four wickets in a WODI.
