Indian batters find themselves in a tough spot

They prepare to take on Bangladesh in the second women’s ODI, desperately seeking to avoid an embarrassing series defeat in Mirpur on Wednesday. The slow surface poses a significant challenge, especially against the spinners, who have troubled the Indian batting lineup throughout the Bangladesh tour. In the previous match, even pacer Marufa Akter proved hard to negotiate, resulting in India’s first-ever loss to Bangladesh in ODIs. Following this memorable victory and their earlier triumph in the final T20, Bangladesh enters the match with momentum and a newfound belief, making them strong contenders for a historic series win over India.

As India gears up to play a World Cup in Bangladesh next year

they face the crucial task of mastering the art of accumulating runs on slow pitches where the ball doesn’t come on to the bat easily. So far, it has been a disappointing collective performance on the tour, despite managing to secure victory in the T20 series. Star batter Smriti Mandhana’s form has been a major letdown, and Priya Punia, who stepped in for Shafali Verma in the ODI series opener, also struggled to make an impact in her comeback. The challenges extend to Yastika Bhatia and Jemimah Rodrigues, who have found it difficult to rotate the strike, putting additional pressure on themselves.

In the absence of Richa Ghosh

The team is struggling to find a reliable finisher who can find boundaries when needed. In the absence of Richa Ghosh, the team is struggling to find a reliable finisher who can find boundaries when needed. However, Amanjot Kaur, who showcased impressive bowling skills on Sunday, has the opportunity to shine with the bat as well and provide India with a much-needed finishing option.

Despite the struggles

the team’s bowling coach Rajib Datta remains optimistic, stating that there is no need to hit the panic button just yet.   “There’s no need to feel disheartened. The team didn’t execute its plans as desired, but we are currently in a transition phase, exploring various combinations for the upcoming World Cup next year,” reassured Rajib Datta, the bowling coach. India faced a concerning issue with 19 wides bowled in the series opener, and it’s an area that needs attention. Datta acknowledged the extras as a problem but attributed it to the players’ return to the field after a gap of four months. He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to rectify the issue.

The squads for the series are as follows

India: Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Yastika Bhatia (wk), Harleen Deol, Devika Vaidya, Uma Chetry (wk), Amanjot Kaur, Priya Punia, Pooja Vastrakar, Meghna Singh, Anjali Sarvani, Monica Patel, Rashi Kanojiya, Anusha Bareddy, Sneh Rana.
